What comes off an Ontario salary?
Ontario employees generally pay federal and provincial income tax, CPP contributions and EI premiums. The estimate also includes the Ontario Health Premium and provincial surtax where applicable. Those two items help explain why a simple provincial bracket percentage does not tell the whole story.
The Ontario Health Premium
The premium starts when annual taxable income exceeds $20,000 and rises through income bands to a maximum of $900. We show it as its own line so it is visible alongside the other deductions.
Ontario surtax and reductions
For 2026, surtax adds 20% of basic provincial tax above $5,818 and another 36% above $7,446. The basic Ontario tax reduction is included, but Ontario LIFT and household-dependent credits are not. Low-income workers may therefore have a lower final tax bill than this estimate.

A few good questions
Is this the exact amount on my paycheque?
No. This is an annual planning estimate divided into equal periods. Your employer may withhold different amounts because of your TD1, benefits, pension plan, pay schedule, bonuses, year-to-date contributions or province of employment. Use the CRA’s official payroll calculator for a specific pay period.
Does moving into a higher tax bracket reduce all my pay?
A higher income tax rate applies only to the portion of taxable income above that bracket’s threshold. Your earlier income slices retain their lower rates. Benefits and income-tested credits can have separate phase-outs that this calculator does not model.
Why do Quebec results have different deductions?
Quebec employees contribute to the Quebec Pension Plan and Quebec Parental Insurance Plan. They also use a different EI rate, provincial tax system and a federal tax abatement. These are included in the estimate.
Do you store my salary?
