Convert hourly pay to an annual salary
The basic calculation is hourly wage × paid hours per week × paid weeks per year. The important word is “paid”: unpaid time off and an irregular schedule can change the result.
A worked example
At $25 per hour, 40 paid hours a week and 52 paid weeks, annual gross income is $52,000. At 35 hours per week, it is $45,500. If only 48 weeks are paid at 40 hours, it is $48,000.
| Hourly wage | Hours / week | Paid weeks | Annual gross |
|---|---|---|---|
| $25 | 40 | 52 | $52,000 |
| $25 | 35 | 52 | $45,500 |
| $25 | 40 | 48 | $48,000 |
Compare offers on the same basis
A quoted hourly wage and an annual salary are only directly comparable after you account for the hours each role expects. Paid vacation, overtime, benefits, employer pension contributions and predictable scheduling may also matter to you. None of these is captured by the headline wage alone.
Use the calculator correctly
Choose “Per hour”, enter your weekly hours, and select your province. The calculator assumes 52 paid weeks. If you expect unpaid weeks, calculate your expected annual total yourself and enter it using “Per year”. The hourly figure in the results table is always a standardized 2,080-hour equivalent for comparison, not a reconstruction of your work schedule.
